ENTREGA DE PREMIOS “THE BIG CHALLENGE”

Premiados de 1º de ESO.

El pasado 16 de junio tuvo lugar la entrega de premios del concurso The Big Challenge, organizado por el Departamento de Inglés de nuestro centro. Todos los alumnos que hemos participado nos hemos estado preparando con la aplicación del concurso, que nos ha permitido repasar nuestros conocimientos de inglés con juegos y pequeños tests. Hemos tenido esta aplicación disponible durante un año desde que nuestra cuenta fue creada.

Premiados de 2º de ESO.

La entrega de premios ha tenido lugar en Usos Múltiples (con aire acondicionado, lo que hemos realmente agradecido). En el primer recreo se han entregado los premios a los alumnos de 2ºESO y, en el segundo recreo, a los cursos restantes. Además de vivir una nueva experiencia, los alumnos hemos intentado conseguir una buena puntuación para llevarnos algunos de los mejores premios que se repartían. Todos hemos recibido un diploma, un póster y un lapicero. Además, los que han quedado en mejores posiciones se han llevado premios extra como un calendario con fotografías de Estados Unidos y una bandera. Al primer clasificado de cada curso se le ha entregado también una medalla. Al finalizar la entrega, nos hemos hecho una foto de grupo con nuestros diplomas y premios.

Premiados de 3º de ESO

Esperamos que el concurso se vuelva a repetir el próximo año y que se anime a participar un mayor número de alumnos. Os aseguramos que merece la pena.

“THE BIG CHALLENGE” AWARDS CEREMONY

On June 16, the awards ceremony of The Big Challenge contest, organized by the English department of our school, took place. All the students who have participated have been preparing ourselves with the application of the contest, which has helped us to review our English knowledge with games and small tests. We have had this application available for a year since our account was created.

The awards ceremony took place in Usos Múltiples (with air conditioning, which we really appreciated). In the first break, the prizes were given to the 2nd ESO students and, in the second break, to the remaining levels. In addition to living a new experience, students have tried to get a good score to win some of the best prizes that were given. We all received a diploma, a poster and a pencil. The top finishers also received extra prizes such as a calendar with pictures of the United States and a flag. The first place winner of each level also received a medal. At the end of the awards ceremony, we took a group photo with our diplomas and prizes.

We hope that the contest will be repeated next year and that more students will be encouraged to participate. We can assure you that it is well worth it.

From Seattle to Valdemoro

Hello! Most of you already know me by my first name, or “teacher,” but for those readers who don´t, I´ll go ahead and briefly introduce myself. My name is Lauren Fryhle and I am one of two North American ´Auxiliares de Conversación` who have had the great pleasure of working as English language and culture assistants at IES Villa de Valdemoro this academic year.

My adventure began back in September when I said my goodbyes to my hometown, family and friends, boarded an American Airlines 757 airplane and traveled the 5.300 miles (8.529 kilometers) from Seattle, WA, USA to the mega metropolis of Madrid. To be quite honest, I had absolutely no idea what awaited me from the moment I stepped off the plane. I was acquainted with the language, country and even city, but as for how I would be spending my days for the following 10 months was one big fat ambiguous question mark. Looking back now, I cannot be grateful enough for the warm welcome I received on my first day from Gema and Josu, and for the constant smiles and friendly kindness of the entire IES Villa de Valdemoro community throughout the year. Each of the teachers from the English department team has been more than just a colleague, but a mentor and friend to me. They work so hard and do an amazing job. I´m lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from them and be a part of all their efforts.
